Modal Electronics, founded in 2013, is headquartered in Bristol, UK. At that time, the development team at Modal felt vintage and contemporary synthesisers were lacking the innovative spirit bound to these instruments from decades before. It was time for overdue updates to the old-school sounds, aesthetics and concepts.

The Modal 002 marked a milestone in synthesiser history, re-imagining what a synthesiser at that time should be. It was the first poly digital/analogue hybrid synthesiser with a transistor ladder filter. The first synth to have 10,000 patch memories, an Ethernet connection to access an integrated webserver to edit all parameters. The first non-workstation synthesiser to feature a full-colour display and the first to support high-res 192kHz/24bit digital audio output over USB.

Today, the 00 series is legendary, and its heritage inspires all of Modals present product line.

In 2018 Modal released the SKULPTsynthesizer, an immense 32-oscillator virtual-analogue polysynth. CRAFTsynth 2.0, a massively powerful monophonic wavetable synthesiser, accompanied the range of creative music tools shortly after.

The ARGON8 Family, released in 2019, harnesses all the knowledge from our past products and packs it into three powerful, hands-on packages that deliver the distinctive Modal sound… BIG – unique, distinguished and vast. Sounds that cut through the mix and are immediately recognisable.

The COBALT8 Family, released in 2020, gather the best attributes of legendary vintage synths from the past and injecting progressive concepts in sound generation techniques. Combined with Modal’s sophisticated modulation and performance engine, these synths deliver a wide spectrum of sounds suitable for all musical genres.

The secret of our products and the excitement they ignite in musicians, producers and performers is that we deliver an entirely new synth experience to push creative boundaries beyond their status quo. Our commitment to our customers and fans is our love for synthesiser, technology and music.
